Founded in 2018, AFSAI members are African PhD holders and PhD students in Ireland. This is to create the platform for African Scholars in Ireland to contribute to the development of Africa, Ireland, and global transformation.

Mentorship
Our Free Mentorship Program
Aims to transform the mentorship experience, focusing on 1-on-1 interaction and addressing the specific needs of mentees in a holistic manner. AFSAI is introducing a mentee-led structured mentoring program, aligning with the evolving needs of individuals. The program emphasizes engagement, live applied practice, and reflection, fostering a collaborative professional community.
Meet The Council

Dr. Felicity Agwu Kalu - President
Dr. Felicity Agwu Kalu is a Lecturer in Midwifery at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Queen’s University Belfast (QUB). Before joining QUB in 2020, she served as a lecturer in Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin. Dr. Kalu earned her PhD in Midwifery from University College Dublin (UCD) School of Nursing, Midwifery, & Health Systems and has extensive experience facilitating learning for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dr. Loveth Owhor, Vice President
Dr. Loveth Owhor is a BioResource Technologist, and Medical researcher. Her area of research is in Reproductive medicine, specialising on the female reproductive system where she investigated the novel work titled ‘ Inflammation in the Bovine Fallopian Tube: Effects on Tubal Functional Morphology and Gameto-Maternal Interaction’ utilising Live Cell Imaging. Her novel work has been published by Nature Scientific Reports Journal.

5th AFSAI Research Day, 8 -9Nov 2024 at University College Dublin, Ireland – was a two day event featuring presentations and discussions on various research projects related to African studies and global development. It provided great opportunity for scholars, researchers, and students to engage in critical discourse and exchange ideas.

AfSAI Research Day, 9-10 November 2023 at Queens University Belfast, was a two-day event which featured presentations and discussions on various research projects related to global change. It provided an opportunity for scholars, researchers, and students to engage in critical discourse and exchange of ideas.
